Aurora Theatre Shooting
On July 12, 2012, an active shooter event took place in Theater 9 of the Century 16 Theater in Aurora Colorado. Within less than five minutes, a single assailant shot or otherwise wounded 70 innocent people, 12 of them fatally. Aurora Police Commander Jad Lanigan, the APD Incident Commander, and Commander Mike Dailey (Ret), one of the first ranking APD officers to arrive, will discuss the entire timeline of this event: From the preparations taken by the shooter, radio transmissions, the public safety response to multiple scenes, the ongoing impact of the incident, and the heroism of everyday people just out to enjoy a movie.

About the Speaker

Commander Jad Lanigan
Commander Jad Lanigan was the Commanding Officer and first responder to the Century 16 shooting incident. He was responsible for coordinating and implementing the initial police response, entry, arrest and initial investigation as the event unfolded. For his actions he received the Distinguished Service Cross, Life Saving Award and the Meritorious Service Ribbon.
